We chatted with #teamzealous open water and pool swimmer, Kiah Melverton, about her recent achievements in pool.
A BIT ABOUT KIAH
In November 2016, Kiah competed in the 2016 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships which acted as selection trials for the 2016 FINA World Swimming Championships in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. At these championships, she earned silver in the 400 metre freestyle and gold in the 800 metre freestyle, earning a national championship and her Australian senior team debut.
Kiah, firstly tell us about World Short Course and your bronze medal winning swim!
World Short Course was my first Senior Australian Team and was an incredible experience, I also got to see snow for the first time! Going into the meet I never expected to come away with a medal so to come away with a Bronze in the 800 was something I had only dreamed of! Standing up on the podium is a memory that will stay with me forever.
What is it like being part of the Australian Swim Team?
The best part of being on any team is the friends you make, spending two weeks with other swimmers that share the same goals as you is such a positive environment and something I want to be a part of for a long time.
How are you feeling about making your first Australian Open Water Team?
Making the Australian Open Water Team was always a goal of mine once I knew I had the opportunity to do so. It's something I have never really concentrated on but I'm really looking forward to the chance to try something new and to see where it takes me.
What swimmers have inspired you over the years?
I remember reading a book about Tracey Wickham a few years ago and ever since then I have been inspired by not only how she trained and raced but her attitude and commitment to the sport.
What does a typical week of training consist of?
A Typical week of training is usually 10 swim sessions (70-75km a week), 2 gym sessions and 1 spin class.
What Zealous suit is your favourite to train in at the moment?
My favourite Zealous suit at the moment would have to be the Foxtrot print, the bright pink straps make you look super tan!
What are you most excited about this year?
I would say I'm most looking forward to travelling to Budapest to compete at the World Championships, maybe even some time off to travel after that!!
Thank you so much for chatting with us, Kiah! Such a wonderful experience for you and we are sure this is just start of a wonderful swimming career.
